John Cena’s Peacemaker series wasn’t something that viewers of The Suicide Squad expected, seeing as the character only just debuted in the DC Extended Universe with that movie. The character will headline the show on HBO Max, due to start releasing new episodes from January 13, 2022.
Redditors have taken the time to pen out their wishlists for the series, with some varying from changing Peacemaker’s characterization to others who want the show to have a certain aura and presentation. It’s worth checking out the Redditors’ suggestions and then seeing if the series properly ended up listening to what the fans want.
Peacemaker Should Want To Steer Public Opinion His Way
Redditor Affectionate_Cry_760 wants to see Peacemaker keep up his superhero persona for reasons that carry forward from The Suicide Squad. They claim to want him to “keep his Peacemaker persona because he knows that if that file got released to the public it would destroy the peace the U.S. has with the world.”
They’re referencing Peacemaker’s killing of Rick Flag to contain information about the U.S.’s involvement in Jotunheim prison. While the TV show appears to present Peacemaker in his straightforward, extreme version of peace, this Redditor hopes he’s up to some smart planning to avoid the public from learning the real truth.
Peacemaker Should Remain A Villain
Redditor zxHellboyxz doesn’t want the series to go the usual manner of reforming a baddie and claims the show doesn’t “need to turn him into a loveable character, he’s a villain he should stay that way.” They prefer the Peacemaker the way he was in The Suicide Squad.
It would be interesting if the series throws a curveball, in that it appears as if Peacemaker is looking to do something good for a change, only to then be revealed as the villain once more. With the character praised for his depiction in The Suicide Squad, the idea of keeping him as an antagonist holds merit.
Peacemaker Should Go Against Waller’s Orders
There’s little doubt that the death of Rick Flag was one of the most shocking things in The Suicide Squad, which came about because of Peacemaker’s loyalty to Amanda Waller. Redditor AlexMohr-237 thinks he should “grow a conscience of his own and not blindly follow Waller’s orders. Break the chains, atone in some way for killing Flag.”
This would represent a big change in personality for Peacemaker, seeing as he didn’t know how to operate other than to follow Waller with whatever she had commanded him. Fans will definitely be surprised by the range in Peacemaker’s personality should he end up thinking on his own.
Peacemaker Needs A Contrasting Villain
There are a number of DCEU characters fans want to see in Peacemaker, with quite a few possible villains for him to fight. According to Redditor TheUltimatenerd05, the antagonist needs to be the opposite of Peacemaker, claiming “the key is the sympathetic backstory and fighting a villain worse than he is.”
Peacemaker has had a lot of haters because of his killing of Flag, so the Redditor’s suggestion is for him to be portrayed in a sympathetic light that a villain even worse than him can achieve. Seeing as Peacemaker had few qualities to suggest he had a tragic background, it would be worth checking out if the series can pull this off.
Peacemaker Should Be On The Path To Redemption
In a twisted way, Peacemaker was the bravest character in The Suicide Squad, as he had no fear of losing his life. Redditor xValkyx thinks Peacemaker will be become an anti-hero as in the comics, claiming “Peacemaker gets redeemed if the show will slowly follow when we start to learn more about him…turning him into an Anti-Hero eventually.”
They believe that Peacemaker will inevitably become a fan favorite because he will be the one that fans will be following in the series. It’s easier for a character, even if they are villainous, to be seen as an anti-hero since their actions are given proper justification, meaning Peacemaker could redeem himself for his past sins.
The Series Should Be The Perspective Of A Baddie
Redditor Living-Test-8659 is done with media portraying good guys all the time and wants the show to be from a villain’s point of view. They claim that people only get to see “the bad guys 3 or 4 times per movie/show before they are defeated. This will give us the bad guy perspective.”
Rather than go the route of turning Peacemaker into a straight-up hero or anti-hero, there’s a chance that he’s a baddie from start to finish. This way, the show will have Peacemaker stay true to his villainous persona without having to go through a redemption story. It would certainly satisfy viewers who prefer edgier material.
The Series Should Keep A Comedic Tone
Peacemaker was among the funniest characters in The Suicide Squad, so it stands to reason that his series will follow the same style. Redditor Sins0fTheFather wants exactly that, with their claims that “they add lots of comedy because we clearly don’t have enough of it in the live-action comic book genre.”
While franchises the Marvel Cinematic Universe have injected comedic moments in their films and shows, there haven’t been any outright comedy projects. The Redditor wants Peacemaker to be completely funny along the lines of a sitcom, as they feel the genre will benefit from a series that doesn’t have serious material.
The Series Should Have The Same Style Of A Movie
Redditor toosadforeverything isn’t in favor of shows that don’t match up to the presentation and appearance of movies and wants Peacemaker to closely resemble a film. They write that they hope “it looks cinematic. Here’s hoping that DC finally gets a budget that can be compared to the Disney+ shows.”
Disney+ shows from Marvel have essentially appeared as movies split into episodes, given the big-time feel they give off. Peacemaker will benefit to look much like The Suicide Squad did, as it would steer close to where the titular character started off and avoid it from appearing too low-scale in terms of importance.
