It’s taken almost a decade for “Halo” to make the transition from Xbox game to television series, but there’s finally an actual show coming to the Paramount+ streaming service sometime in 2022.

Even if we don’t have an exact release date, there’s now a trailer for the show that premiered during the 2021 Game Awards. Check it out below.

The trailer makes it look like the series will be a prequel to the game and show how Master Chief came to be “the chosen one” destined to lead the United Nations Space Command in its battle against the Covenant.

Dr. Catherine Halsey shows up from the video game, and she’s played by Natascha McElhone (“Designated Survivor,” “Californication”). Dr. Halsey’s task is to train Master Chief for his destiny as the leader of the UNSC’s war with the Covenant.

Pablo Schreiber (“13 Hours,” “Orange Is the New Black”) takes on the role of Master Chief, although it’s unclear whether we’ll ever actually see his face. Bokeem Woodbine (“Fargo,” “Wu-Tang: An American Saga) plays Soren-066.

Steven Spielberg is the executive producer of the series, but he’s been attached to the project since it was first announced way back in 2013. The show was eventually announced as a Showtime series and finally started filming in late 2019 before shutting down once the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Parent company ViacomCBS announced in February 2021 that it was moving “Halo” from Showtime to Paramount+. All that’s left now is for us to wait for a premiere date in 2022.
