With a New Year comes new anticipation for television and film, and in 2022 we are set to see a number of new releases on the Netflix streaming service.
As the concept of streaming television becomes ever more popular, with many shunning traditional methods of enjoying visual media content, Netflix continues to take advantage by producing enthralling originals and securing the rights to popular films. So, just what does 2022 have in store for us on the platform?
Bridgerton Season 2
One of the most popular shows on Netflix is due to return for season 2 in 2022, with Bridgerton set to continue where it left off at the end of its debut run.
The series currently ranks as the number one most viewed English-language original series on Netflix, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the show, although a new focus on other characters is anticipated. Bridgerton’s newest release is set for March 25, 2022.
Stranger Things Season 4
Stranger Things became one of the most referenced popular culture shows when it was first released in 2016, building a cult following in the subsequent years.
As one of the platform’s signature original shows, fans are hugely excited for the return of the programme in the summer of 2022.
This release is also due to coincide with the Stranger Things mobile game, which has just launched, as Netflix looks to build hype for season 4.
The Crown Season 5
The Crown won Netflix their first ever Emmy for a drama series, and the show captured mainstream appeal for its sympathetic portrayal of the late Princess Diana and her troubled relationship with Queen Elizabeth‘s eldest son, Charles.
Season 5 of the series is due to hit Netflix servers in November of 2022, although the audience for the most recent seasons has become somewhat more niche, slipping behind Stranger Things in the popularity rankings.
