BoJack Horseman and The LEGO Batman Movie star Will Arnett has replaced The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer in the new film from Taika Waititi.
The Jojo Rabbit, What We Do in the Shadows and Thor: Love and Thunder director is working on a football comedy called Next Goal Wins, about the historically unlucky American Samoa team and Michael Fassbender’s attempts to turn them around. Well, Michael Fassbender playing coach Thomas Rongen that is.
According to Deadline, reshoots were called for the film, but Hammer was unavailable. Now that Arnett has stepped in, the role of the Football Federation executive has also been expanded from a cameo appearance to a larger role.
Meanwhile, last year Arnett spoke exclusively to Digital Spy about the final ever episode of BoJack Horseman, citing the simplicity of it as a good reflection of real life, rather than some major cliffhanger as people might expect.
“I think that sometimes it’s tempting to kind of leave on a– make a huge statement or huge fantastical ending that, you know, ends with a bang. But that’s not often the reflection of what life is like.”
And what about the possibility of reprising his role as the titular character if the show were to return in the future? Well, Arnett seems pretty keen if creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg had a great idea for a new storyline.
“I’d never say never… Yeah, I think that I have such faith in Raphael, I think that he’s such a unique, talented voice, that were he to say ‘hey, I’ve got another story that I want to tell in this world’, I would fall right in line behind him. Because I think his vision on this is always really right on. So I’d be a fool not to join him on anything that he wanted to do.”
BoJack Horseman is available on Netflix. Will Arnett hosts LEGO Masters USA, which airs on E4 in the UK and is available on All 4.
